First Things To Do When Moving

The first thing to do when you move is to memorize your new location. In a way, where we live is a large part of our identity. We identify ourselves based on which town we live in or proximity to a neighborhood. Here are a few suggestions for things to commit to memory early:

– new area code
– new house number
– new street name
– new codes to enter the garage (decide early what to program those numbers to!)
– major highways around the area (in particular, those to work, the grocery store, and one other high profile location, such as your children’s new school or Chipotle!)

Once these things are memorized, the move will feel a lot less daunting. You are now free to focus on other tasks.

• Have you made a decision on how any pets will be taken care of or transported?
• Have you numbered and arranged the rooms in your current house to the rooms in the new house, so that all boxes and furniture will be put in the correct room by your moving company?
• Have you arranged for a moving company?
• Have you notified magazine subscriptions, cell phone companies, Internet providers, and others of your new address?
• Have you planned out meals for right before you leave and during the trip?
• Have you planned out travel bags for children?
• Have you determined how much space there will be in the moving truck?
• Have you determined what boxes and luggage will be in the car with you?
• Have you completed an IRS Change of Location form?

These are just a few of the questions you should ask yourself prior to planning out a moving trip. If you need more advice or help with your move, feel free to give Good Stuff Moving a call. We’ll provide boxes, help with the packing, and transport all of your possessions for you safely.

Now relax. Enjoy the move!
