What if the Farmer's Almanac is Right... Again?

The Farmers Almanac predictions are in and ‘extreme cold’ is the theme according to their Winter Forecast for 2014.    What could a return to “Days of Shivery” mean for the move you are planning?  Mother Nature can present a challenge but don’t worry – we’ve got some tips to help you get through a cold Minnesota winter move with relative ease.

A recent article in US News – Personal Finance highlights 6 tips for a winter move.  Of course we are partial to #3 – hiring a moving company because the benefits are amplified during the winter.  We’ve added our take on how to make a winter moving experience easier:

Watch the weather and have a backup plan

The first tip in this article suggests you keep an eye on the weather. We agree but here’s your challenge: you’ve lined up all your big burly guy friends to be at your apartment at 8  AM sharp.  They’ve all agreed (based on the pizza and beer you promised them at the end of the day) so they’ve gone ahead and cleared their schedules for that particular day.  But wait, a blizzard rolls in and you need to reschedule.  Not so easy when it’s your friends and family.   One call to us and you’re done. Short notice or last minute is ok with us.  Bonus – we’ll discuss alternatives and our policies with you ahead of time to give you peace of mind.

Timing your utilities turn on/off orders

This is a task you do not want to forget.  It is best to have the heat, electricity, etc. turned on a day or two ahead in your new apartment or residence. That way you can be sure it is fully functional and ready when you arrive.  The same is true for the apartment or house you are leaving.  When possible, give yourself an extra day in case the weather changes your plans.  Bonus – we have climate controlled storage as an option.

Clear a path

Be sure to clear the steps, sidewalks and parking areas at both locations and use a treatment like sand or salt to minimize slippery conditions.  If you are moving to an apartment or condo a property manager can help at your destination if it’s too far to make the trip yourself.  If a house is your destination then ask your real estate agent for assistance.  Bonus of hiring Good Stuff Moving we do the lifting and moving and  – we’ll put down protection (plastic or cardboard) to help reduce what our team tracks in at both locations.

So whether you are relying on the Farmers Almanac or the Weather Channel remember our company motto: The Customer is #1 with Good Stuff Moving.  You can rely on us. If a winter move is on your calendar contact us today for a free quote!
