How Much Does Moving Cost in Edina?
With us, an Edina house move typically costs $1,000 to $3,000. Condo and apartment moves run about $800 to $2,000, senior moves land in that same $800 to $2,000 band, and office moves come in anywhere from $1,000 to $8,000. Local moves are hourly, starting from a two-hour minimum with two movers.
Those are general ranges, not quotes. A lot of Edina homes are on the larger side, with finished basements, full garages and three levels of furniture, and those moves take longer. A condo with a reserved elevator usually takes less time. What actually sets your price is the amount of stuff, the size of the crew and the number of trucks, any stairs or elevators, the distance from your door to the truck, and whether we’re packing for you.
What Can Make a Move Take Longer?
For an hourly move, time matters. Understanding what slows a crew down can also help you prepare and potentially keep your moving costs under control.
Common factors include:
- Extra boxes. A home with 150 boxes takes longer to load and unload than one with 50, even if the furniture is similar.
- Stairs. Carrying furniture up or down stairs naturally takes longer than moving everything directly through a ground-level entrance.
- Long walks. If the truck can’t park close to the door, every item has to travel farther.
- Elevators. Waiting for an elevator can add significant time, especially when it isn’t reserved exclusively for the move.
- Furniture disassembly. Beds, large tables, shelving, and other pieces may need to come apart before they can safely leave the home.
- Poor preparation. Loose items, unfinished packing, and boxes that aren’t sealed can slow down loading.
- Difficult truck access. Tight streets, parking restrictions, steep driveways, or other access problems may change where the moving truck can park.
Mention potential access issues when you schedule your estimate. It’s much easier to solve those problems before moving day than after the truck arrives.
How Does a Moving Estimate Work?
Our estimates are handled by a moving coordinator, not the crew. Once you request a quote, your coordinator reaches out by phone or email and walks through the details of your move:
- Your move date and time
- Where you’re moving from
- Where you’re moving to
- Your home size: apartment, condo or house, plus the number of bedrooms and floors
- A full inventory of what’s moving, including furniture, boxes, exercise equipment, electronics, mattresses and box springs
- Whether you need storage
- Whether you need packing
The estimate is free, and it can be done in person, over the phone or by video call. In a typical Edina house, count past the living room. The finished basement, the storage room and the garage shelving all add time, and the number of boxes is what people underestimate most. A complete inventory is what makes the number accurate, and we come in under our estimate 97% of the time.
How Early Should You Book Movers in Edina?
Book as soon as your date is set. There isn’t one booking window that fits every move, but summer, weekends and the end of the month tend to book up first. If your date depends on a closing, start getting quotes as soon as the closing is scheduled.
We don’t charge more for busy dates, so the only thing waiting can cost you is the date you wanted. A $50 deposit holds your truck and crew, and it’s refundable if you cancel at least 48 hours before the move.
Why Choose Good Stuff Moving for Your Edina Move?
We’ve completed more than 100,000 moves since 1999, and Edina customers now have a local office and a direct line: 651-294-6123.
A few policies matter most when you’re comparing Edina movers. There’s no peak pricing, so a July Saturday costs the same as a Tuesday in February. You won’t pay stair or elevator fees, and you won’t pay long-carry or shuttle fees either. Some movers charge those when the truck has to park far from your door or can’t get up the driveway. The deposit is $50, estimates cost nothing, and we come in under our estimate on 97% of moves. US DOT #3999175 | Minnesota HHG #384517
What to Expect on Moving Day
The crew arrives, goes over what’s being moved, and starts getting the furniture ready. Large pieces get wrapped in moving pads and plastic wrap, and beds and anything else that won’t fit through a doorway get taken apart. In an Edina house with wood floors, the crew lays down floor runners first.
The truck gets loaded so everything rides secure. Once the truck reaches your new place, everything comes off and goes to the room you point to. Before they leave, walk through both homes once more. Check the closets, the garage and the laundry room so nothing gets left behind.
Moving Houses, Condos and Apartments in Edina
Edina moves look different depending on the part of town. East of Highway 100, the Country Club District and Morningside have many homes from the 1920s through the 1940s, with tighter staircases and narrower doorways than newer houses. West of Highway 100, in neighborhoods like Countryside and Indian Hills, you’ll find more ranch homes, split-levels and walkout basements on bigger, sometimes sloped lots, where the walk to the truck can be long. And a lot of older Edina homes have been torn down and rebuilt, so new-construction moves come up often.
Our residential movers take the houses, and our apartment movers take the condo and apartment jobs. If you’re coming to Edina from the city, our Minneapolis movers can take care of that end of the move as well.

How to Prepare for Your Edina Move
A little prep saves real time on moving day. If you’re packing yourself, tape every box shut and mark the room it belongs in. Keep the hallways and doorways clear, put anything riding in your own car in one spot, and settle the pets in a closed room or with a friend for the day.
Moving into or out of an Edina condo? Ask the building about elevator reservations, loading areas, move-in hours and whether it needs a certificate of insurance from us, which is a document showing our insurance covers the building if something gets damaged. The high-rises along York Avenue near Southdale, the buildings around Centennial Lakes and the condos at 50th and France each set their own rules, and parking around 50th and France is short-term and busy. Send us the building’s rules with your estimate request and we’ll plan the truck spot and the crew around them before moving day.
Packing Services for Edina Moves
Packing a big Edina house almost always takes longer than people expect. The furniture is easy to picture. The kitchen with two sets of dishes, the china cabinet, the framed art and years of holiday bins in the basement are what fill the day.
If you’d rather hand that off, our packing services can cover the whole house or just the breakable rooms.
Full Packing Services
With full packing, the packing crew works through the home room by room, boxing and labeling belongings before the move.
This can be useful when you're short on time, moving a large household, or simply don't want to spend several evenings and weekends packing.
Furniture that needs to be disassembled for safe transportation can also be identified before loading begins.
Partial Packing Services
You don't have to hire movers to pack the entire house.
Partial packing allows you to handle the straightforward items yourself while leaving more difficult areas to the crew. Kitchens, glassware, mirrors, artwork, and other fragile belongings are common examples.
Senior Moves in Edina
Edina has a lot of long-time residents, and many senior moves here are downsizing moves out of a house someone has lived in for decades. The destination might be a smaller condo, a co-op like 7500 York, an independent or assisted living community such as York Gardens or Yorkshire of Edina, or a family member’s home.
Most of the work is deciding what fits and what should move before moving day. Our senior moving services cover moves throughout Edina and the surrounding suburbs, and a senior move usually costs $800 to $2,000, based on how much is coming along and how much help is needed.
Commercial Moving in Edina
Business moves are about keeping downtime short, which is the main reason to hire professional movers for one. Most Edina offices sit in multi-tenant buildings along France Avenue near Southdale, at 50th and France, and in the Grandview area off Highway 100, where the building’s freight elevator and move-hour rules shape the schedule as much as the furniture does.
Our commercial movers plan the move with your building manager as well as your team. Expect an Edina office move to cost $1,000 to $8,000, based on square footage and what’s moving.
Office Equipment Movers
Desks, conference tables, shelving, workstations, and filing systems may need to be disassembled before they can be moved safely.
A clear floor plan also helps the crew place furniture correctly the first time instead of moving the same pieces again after unloading.
Secure Packing & Transportation
Commercial packing can range from a few fragile items to an entire office.
Computers, servers, sensitive records, and specialized equipment may require additional preparation by your own IT team, vendors, or employees before our crew arrives. Discuss those items during the estimate so everyone understands who is responsible for what.
Long Distance Movers Serving Edina
Leaving Minnesota changes the rules. When a household move crosses a state line, federal regulations apply, including registration with the U.S. Department of Transportation. Ours is US DOT #3999175.
Our long-distance moving services take Edina households to other states. Interstate moves typically run $5,000 to $20,000, depending on how much is going and how far. Your estimate should spell out what’s included and how your shipment will be handled.
In-State Moving Services
Not every long move is an interstate move. A move from Edina to Duluth, Rochester, Brainerd, or another Minnesota city stays within the state. These moves still require more planning than a typical move across town. Drive time becomes a larger part of the day, and the crew needs an accurate inventory so the correct truck and number of movers can be scheduled. An inventory is simply a detailed list of the furniture, boxes, appliances, and other belongings you want us to move.
Exclusive Cross Country Moving
For a cross-country move, ask how your belongings will be transported and whether your shipment will share truck space with other customers.
Call 651-294-6123 to discuss your long-distance move.
Moving and Storage Options
Sometimes the move-out date and move-in date don’t line up.
A home closing can change, construction can run behind schedule, or a lease may end before the next home is ready. In those situations, storage can bridge the gap.
We offer storage starting at $75 per month. Belongings are stored in vaults inside a climate-controlled warehouse. A storage vault is a large enclosed container used to keep a customer’s belongings grouped together while they’re in storage.
Storage can also be useful during renovations, downsizing, or longer transitions between homes.
Climate Controlled
Secure, climate-controlled units in Minnesota for furniture, electronics and the things you could not replace. Solid wood and upholstery do not survive a Minnesota winter in an unheated garage.
Specialized Trucks, Equipment, and Supplies
Storage that works around a renovation, a downsizing, or the gap between one place and the next. The crew that loads your house loads the unit and brings it back out, so nothing is handled by a stranger in between.
Moving in the Wintertime in Edina
Winter moves are routine in Minnesota. In Edina they just take some extra planning around parking. From November 1 through March 31, every vehicle has to be off city streets between 1 and 6 a.m. After a snowfall of 1.5 inches or more, nothing can park on the street until it’s been plowed to full width. So a loaded truck can’t sit on your street overnight in winter, and a two-day move gets planned around that.
Before moving day, shovel and salt the driveway, front walk and steps. If the forecast turns, call the office and we’ll talk through timing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Moving in Edina
How much do movers cost in Edina?
Edina moves are billed hourly, and the minimum is two hours with two movers. Plan on $1,000 to $3,000 for a house, $800 to $2,000 for a condo or apartment, and $1,000 to $8,000 for an office. The size of the move, the carry from door to truck, stairs or an elevator, and the number of movers and trucks decide where you fall. Treat those as ballparks, not quotes. The real number comes from an estimate, and we come in under ours 97% of the time.
Do Edina condo buildings have rules for movers?
Most do. Buildings along York Avenue, around Centennial Lakes and at 50th and France commonly require an elevator reservation, set loading hours and a certificate of insurance. Get the rules from your management office or HOA as soon as you have a date and share them when you request your estimate. That way the crew is scheduled to fit the window the building gives you.
Can a moving truck park on the street in Edina in winter?
Only during the day. From November 1 through March 31, Edina requires every vehicle to be off city streets from 1 to 6 a.m., and after 1.5 inches of snow nothing can park on the street until it’s plowed to full width. The truck can load on the street during the day, but on a two-day winter move it can’t stay parked on a residential street overnight.
How can I tell if Edina movers are legitimate?
Start with the deposit. Being asked for several hundred dollars up front to reserve a date is a warning sign, because that money can be tough to recover if your plans change. Ours is $50. Then look up the licensing. Anyone moving you across state lines needs a US DOT number, and Minnesota household goods carriers hold a state permit. Both can be checked online, and ours are US DOT 3999175 and HHG 384517. Finally, get the estimate in writing after your home has been reviewed in person, by phone or on video. Ask everyone on your list for the same three things.
