To the Bluffs: Moving to Winona, MN

Winona, Minnesota is located a little over 2 hours southeast of the Twin Cities, on the border of the Mississippi River. It separates itself from the urbanism of the Twin Cities with its population of approximately 30,000 residents. Despite it’s smaller size, Winona has much to offer when it comes to culture and lifestyle. Whether you’re planning to move outside the metro area or just looking for a weekend getaway, we’ll tell you why this medium size city on the banks of the Mississippi is a great option!

Nature: One of the Main Attractions

When people think of Winona, one of the first things that comes to mind are the scenic bluffs. There are many opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy season activities.  Such as fishing, hiking or cross-country skiing — just to name a few. If you’re feeling something more laid back, take a Mississippi River Cruise or visit one of Winona’s three wineries. Within the city, there are many museums and monument parks to visit.

While there is not a major shopping mall like in Twin Cities suburbs, there are an abundance of charming antique and consignment shops.

Winona: The City of Festivals

Aside from the beautiful scenery and cultural offerings, Winona is also known as the City of Festivals. Year-round the city hosts music festivals, film festivals, art festivals, and theater festivals. Check out visitwinona.com for upcoming festivals in the area.

Three higher education institutes also call the city home — Winona State University, Saint Mary’s University and Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical. Because of this high influx of young adults there is no shortage of dining options to choose from. The large student population also contributes to many of the cultural events in the city.
