How to Move Clothes: The 101.
Did you know moving made it to the list of top 10 most stressful things a person will ever do? The fact doesn’t really help if you’re planning to move yourself but here are 5 tips that will. One of the biggest problems when moving concerns clothes. T-shirts, Jeans, Casual Wear, Evening Dresses, Pajamas, Nighties, Suits and the list goes on and on; what to pack, how to pack and what to give away- this is no small task future movers. So without further ado, here are the 5 neat ways you can use to make the ordeal a whole lot easier for you:
1. INVEST IN WARDROBE BOXES
This is something we would definitely recommend for at least your nicest clothes- you know, the ones you keep hanging at all times and need them spick and span. Instead of having to shove your on-hangers clothes inside boxes or bags, you can hang them inside the wardrobe boxes exactly like you have them hung in your wardrobe. These boxes come with dependable hanging rods and you don’t need to worry about the clothes falling to the bottom in a heap. You can use the space at the bottom to pack shoes and books. Professional moving companies like Good Stuff Moving provide their own wardrobe boxes for your use if you avail their services. So that’s a nice alternative to buying the boxes that you might not ever need to use again.
2. GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR … GARBAGE BAGS!
You can poke a hole in the bottom end of heavy-duty garbage bags and then place clothes inside them with the handle of the hangers poking through the hole. For multiple hangers, it might be a good idea to tie the handles together with twist ties. Then, you can knot the bottom (formerly, the top) of the garbage bags. Now you can easily manage your clothes and you are protecting them from harm inside or outside of wardrobe boxes.
3. DONATE
You will have several items of clothing that you have not worn for a long time and probably never will again. Taking them with you would be a useless hassle. Collect the ones you don’t think you will need again and donate them. That might result in some good karma for your move as well! If you don’t just want to give them away, you can also look into selling them.
4. USING BAGS EFFICIENTLY
Bags are more effective for packing clothes than boxes because you can really fill them to capacity. Nonetheless here’s something you should do when packing apparel in bags: Right before tying the not, put a lot of pressure on them (perhaps even sit on them) to release any air and then quickly do the tying. You don’t want them ballooning up when you want to save as much space as you can.
5. PACK WITH DRYER SHEETS
To keep clothes smelling fresh, pack them with dryer sheets. That way, you can avoid that musty smell that comes with the territory.
Moving clothes needs some sensible planning. You can use these tips to make things easier for you. Or you can just get a professional moving company like Good Stuff Moving to do all of the packing and moving for you.
