Summer Has Ended and Winter Has Begun

It’s not quite winter yet, but summer has definitely ended; before we know it, fall will be over.

What affect does the season change have on moving? Everything!

Winter is especially hard on moving, so with the seasons changing its important to prepare and take precautions.

Moving Items

  • Plants can freeze. Either put them in the front of the van or the back seat of your own car. If you have no other option available, you can put the plants in plastic bags (with air holes poked though) to keep them warm in the back of the van.
  • Make other arrangements items that are sensitive the cold.  Electronics, liquids, and medications.Pack snow shovels and salt with you, in case you need to create a path through snow.
  • Prepare for the worst. Make sure your points of departure and arrival have a path to the truck that’s free of snow or ice. Keep shovels and other ice and snow removal tools handy.
  • Keep aside plenty of warm clothes, hats, gloves, and scarves so they are easily accessible

Your Safety is most important. Bundle up, slow down and take precautions

Things to consider

  • Keep on top of quickly changing weather conditions by staying tuned into weather reports before and during your move
  • Consider moving with crates instead of cardboard boxes to reduce the risk of rain damage
  • Get as much help from friends and family to make the process faster and less cold.
  • Freezing and thawing casues the most damage to items if not properly sealed
  • Severe weather changes are hard on wood floors and some plastics
  • Snow produces slush, making a messy move- arrange floor and or carpet protection

Schedule your move before or after major holiday such as Thanksgiving, Hanukkah Christmas, Kwanzaa

Happy moving!
